Harper Woods Soup
Microfinancing Community Dinner
stewing your business ideas
Harper Woods Soup is a micro-granting dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Harper Woods. For a donation, $5 attendees receive soup, salad, bread (and much more), and a vote and hear from four presentations ranging from art, urban agriculture, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more. Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea and answer four questions from the audience. At the event, attendees eat, talk, share resources, enjoy art and vote on the project they think benefits the city the most. At the end of the night, we count the ballots and the winner goes home with all of the money raised to carry out their project. Winners come back to a future SOUP dinner to report their project’s progress.
about
Harper Woods Soup
The vision comes from the understanding that the retail landscape has changed it was overdeveloped and with income levels changing, people working longer hours shopping has gone from a past time to an inconvenience. Busy people prefer to shop online and people want more locally sourced items. Millennial value craftsmanship over value. We want to support homegrown businesses and see new and innovative ideas flourish. Soup is our way to combat the effects of de-industrialization and divestment that contributed to the downturn of the mall. New Malls haven’t been built in America since 2006 people want to have an experience, to spend time with family and to have a renewed sense of pride in their community.
